The discovery of the “arty scarfy” happened by sheer chance mingled with a bit of creativity and some colourful strands of MoYa yarn I received as a gift.
Not to mention that this bout of creativity took place in a sublime environment between St Francis Bay and a delightful Karoo farm called Nagtegaalsfontein.
The beginning and the end of the arty scarfy was prescribed by the yarn, which meant that I cast on a limited amount of stitches and could only complete 7 rows then my yarn was done. After threading a string of chains through the top row I pulled it over my head and made a bow.
And there it was the warm cosy little scarf that looked great and dressed up any outfit. In fact I ended up making 3. By the 2nd scarfy Cornel and Elsbeth introduced me to the foundation chain. Here are some photos which introduce you to this magical crochet trick.
I also found a tutorial which shows you how to master the foundation chain. Never again will I start a project with a row of chains.
What a wonderful time we had, four friends doing what friends do best, eating delicious food, sharing banter about this and that, being creative and simply being ourselves. The past week has given me many wonderful memories that I can tap into when I need to count my blessings and know how fortunate I am to count Cornel, Elsbeth and Liesel amongst my most treasured friends.
