happy valentine’s (and a little tutorial)

I love these little celebrations through the year

and Valentine’s Day is just one of them.

There is still time to give your own handcrafted spin on the day we celebrate LOVE.

Elsbeth (her sweetest little heart brooch, which I LOVE, is below in this blog post) and I have both made a brooch each and hope to show you step-by-step how easy it is to do..

Mine will be posted here tomorrow morning.

We are so happy to be back, blogging in this new spot we found on WordPress and hope that you’ll follow our crafty journey…

Yeah!

Hi everyone, Elsbeth here.

This super adorable little bear was my inspiration for a Valentines DIY crochet project.

I believe we all need some cuteness in our lives..

Hope you enjoy this project as much as I did!

Can’t wait to take my little brooch out tomorrow!

let’s start!

STEP 1 Some nice white wool. I used African Expressions, Desire, or any other colour you would like your brooch to be. Some black, yellow and gold wool. Your trusty hook, needle, scissors and toy stuffing or bits of wool.

****Some nice white wool. I used African Expressions, Desire, or any other colour you would like your brooch to be.
****Some black, yellow and gold wool.
****Your trusty hook, needle, scissors and toy stuffing or bits of wool. I made this little heart without a pattern and just followed my creativity. You can look on pintrest for some patterns like this one to help you make a basic heart.

step2
Step 2
Make 3ch and connect. Make dc/ sc into the circle and sl st into the first dc/sc. Add a second row of dc/sc st. In every second ch sp make 2dc. You don’t want a perfect flat circle but rather a little circle that looks like a cup.

STEP 3 Make another circle in the same way as the first circle.
STEP 3
Make another circle in the same way as the first circle.

STEP 4 Attach the 2 cup circles with a sl st and make a dc in every ch sp.
STEP 4
Attach the 2 cup circles. You need a gap in between the circles so that you can push the stuffing and your needle through there.

STEP 5 Continue with dc in every ch sp forthe next round. Start decreasing stiches in the following round by working 1dc over 2 ch sp in every 5th sp. In your next round you can decrease in every 3rd ch sp. Be creative here and play around- if you want a long thin heart you need to decrease more slowly and over more rows. If you like a fatter shorter little heart you can decrease more in each row.
STEP 5
Continue with you dc/sc sts and start decreasing gradually. Continue until you feel you are almost finished.

STEP 6 Your heart is almost done but you need to add the little face now! Get all your other goodies closer and thread your black yarn into your needle.

Get all your other goodies closer and thread your black yarn into your needle.

STEP 7 Make a knot at the end of the black yarn and push the needle it into the inside of the heart and then out where you want the eye to be. The knot is then inside the heart. Make the eyes and lashes. TIP: Make the eyes on the middle horizontal line of the heart. That is the trick to get the cutness effect!!! Please don't worry about how you are going to make the eyes! Just do it! You are clever, capable and more creative than you think and any mistake can be undone.

Please don’t worry about how you are going to make the eyes! It’s similar to half a circle. Just do it! You are clever, capable and more creative than you think and any mistake can be undone. Add the lashes as you go.

STEP 8 Continue with the last bit of the bottom of your little heart.
STEP 8
Continue with the last bit of the bottom of your little heart so that you can add a smile.

STEP 9 Finish of the little smile. Its just another little half circle design. When you are done with the smile you can remove the needle and push the remaining black yarn into the heart as part of your stuffing. Continue to crochet the last bit of the heart with your pretty wool and end it of. Leave a long tail so that you can close the top of the heart later.

STEP 14 Remember that long piece of yarn at the bottom of the heart? Thread it with your needle and push your needle in at the bottom straight to the top. You will now close the brooch with small stitches.
